The Word & Spirit
09/07/2011

God wants you to overcome in life and one of the most important things we can understand is how the Word and the Spirit work together. If all you have is the word you will dry up, if all you have is the Spirit you will blow up, but if you have the word and the Spirit you will grow up. Today as you read this writing, I pray that the Lord would richly bless you and that the Holy Spirit would bring greater illumination on the subject of the Word & Spirit.

The Word & Spirit

Genesis 1:1-3 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 3And God said, Let there be light, and there was light.

I want you to notice in verse 2, the Spirit of God was hovering. If you study this out, what it is actually saying is that the Spirit of God was hovering, much like a mother hen broods over her eggs until they hatch. Then in verse 3, God said Let there be light and there was light. So we see here, first was the Holy Spirit and we see that He was waiting for the instant that the Word is spoken. The moment the word was spoken He (Holy Spirit) enforced and manifested the Word that was spoken. So here we see the cooperation of the God-head working together in creation God the Father had the image on the inside of Himself, then the Logos (Jesus) speaks the word and then the Holy Spirit manifest the spoken word in creation according to the will of the Father.

John 1:1-3 1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2The same was in the beginning with God. 3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Luke 3:21-22 21Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, 22And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.

We can see here again the trinity in manifestation in a single event. So we see here in John 1 that the Word (Jesus) came first, he was born into the earth, he was growing and developing. The word had been on the planet in human form for 30 years. Here it is almost the exact opposite of what we saw in Genesis, in Genesis we saw that the Holy Spirit was waiting for the word to be spoken, and then here we find Jesus at the age of thirty had not performed one miracle, not one blind eye opened, nothing until He was anointed by the Holy Ghost at the river Jordan. When you really think about it, it's mind boggling, a little baby in a manger, and yet he is the very one that created and is upholding all things! So the Word walked on the earth for 30 years and performed no miracles or healings until he was empowered by the Holy Ghost. The Word is alive and is full of power, but just the Word of God laying on your table collecting dust produces nothing until it is mixed with the anointing of the Holy Ghost. Think about this; In creation if the Word was never spoken, then there would have never been a manifestation of creation. If Jesus (the Word) had never been empowered by the anointing of the Holy Ghost. He never would have been able to go about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil. It takes the operation of the Word and the Spirit to bring forth the will of God in the earth. Speaking in tongues is one of the most hated truths by the devil. Speaking in tongues is the Holy Spirit speaking forth the very plan and purpose of God into manifestation in your life. The first initial evidence of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is speaking in other tongues. The first thing the Holy Spirit wants to do is voice authority to the plan of God for your life.

Matthew 17:14-21 14And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying, 15Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatic, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water. 16And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him. 17Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me. 18And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour. 19Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? 20And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. 21Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

Notice: The disciples could not get this guys son healed. Jesus didn't pat the disciples on the back and say, "that's ok we'll get it next time," Jesus was absolutely ruthless on their unbelief, he was expecting them to have faith. Jesus even told the Father that if he had faith the son could be healed. The man said, I believe to some degree, but he said help my unbelief. Your faith comes to an end, but His faith is limitless, and when you come to the end of your faith you can tap into His faith. That's what the gift of faith is. When the gift of faith comes on you, you will step into a holy boldness. You will do things that seem unnatural to the natural mind. Their will always be results that line up with God's word when opperating in the gift of faith.

Walking in Power

Acts 10:38 38How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

I want you to notice here that Jesus was anointed with 2 things, the Holy Ghost and power. The Holy Ghost comes for fellowship, but when the power comes it comes for ministry.

Luke 4:1-3 1And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. 3And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.

Luke 4:7-13 7If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine. 8And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 9And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence: 10For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee: 11And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 12And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. 13And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.

Notice in verse 1, Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost, it doesn't mention power yet. Also, notice just after He is empowered, immediately Satan comes to steal the word. IF thou be the Son of God, he came to steal the Word the Father had just spoken, God just said "this is my son." The reason why Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness was to take back what was stolen in the garden. Jesus was tempted in 3 realms spirit, soul, and body. Just as Adam lost his dominion in 3 realms. Notice Jesus doesn't defeat Satan with happy thoughts. He defeats the devil by speaking the word of God. The enemy will always try to get you to look at the circumstances instead of looking to God. Don't accept the circumstance that Satan brings. Instead speak God's word. You don't defeat the devil with your thoughts. You defeat the devil with your words.

Luke 4:14 14And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.

Jesus now is walking in power, He is ready to demonstrate the power of God in the destruction of the works of the devil. If I had the keys to a band new V12, red, Ferrari, how many would like to it for a spin? But what if I gave the keys to a 5 year old child? You would think I was crazy! A 5 year old child is not ready. When they become of full age, then they can take the key, put it in the ignition, and take the car for a drive. God the Father has some keys that unlock more of His power in our lives. We need to get into the word and we need to pray in the Holy Ghost. This is how we will see the release of His power in and though our lives in a greater way.

The Living Word

Hebrews 4:12 12For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The Word of God is alive and full of power. One reason why everything will respond to the Word of God is because everything at it's core is the Word of God. We understand that the enemy has perverted creation, but the word of God is full of power to change things back to the will of God. Lack of faith in God's word was the door out of the garden. Faith in the God's Word is the doorway back into the garden or you could say paradise of God. This is where all of your needs are abundantly met. Whatever you need it is found through faith in God's word. If you need healing for your body, if you need peace for your mind, if you need finances, whatever your need is God has made provision for you through the finished work of Jesus. When Jesus said "it's finished" he meant it.

Luke 4:18-27 18The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. 20And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears. 22And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son? 23And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country. 24And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country. 25But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land; 26But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow. 27And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian

In verse 18, the Spirit of the Lord is upon the word. In verse 19 Jesus said, He was called, "to preach the acceptable year of the Lord." This is the year of Jubilee, when freedom was proclaimed to all people. Complete redemption in Christ, health, holiness, power, prosperity, and full dominion over Satan and all of his works. Then in verse 23, The ministry of the prophet is to deliver the Word of the Lord without exception. Then look at verse 27, When Jesus said this, it made the religious so angry that they interrupted His message. They literally wanted to pick him up, carry him to the edge of the city, and throw him off the cliff. Not exactly the outcome your looking for when you preach your first sermon. What made them so mad? Jesus was saying that under the old covenant there was ONLY one woman who received the promise of God. Then He is saying that ONLY one leper was healed and it was the one that went and dipped in the river Jordan 7 times. Both of these examples were people who were not even in covenant with God. The Parisees that Jesus is speaking to had a covenant with God, and all of the people could have been healed, but only a couple recieved. Jesus is saying to them, God's Word is your provision and it is your health. He was rebuking them for their unbelief. It is interesting that in the very next chapter Jesus healed a man full of leprosy.

Luke 5:12-14 12And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. 13And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him. 14And he charged him to tell no man: but go, and shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.

Some people have the idea that God has the ability to heal them, but they question His willingness to heal them. Get this truth established in you, HE IS ALWAYS WILLING! Jesus is the Word. The Word put on flesh and showed us the power that is contained within the Word. When you read the word of God you are actually fellowshipping with Jesus. When the Roman Centurion came to Jesus he said "Lord if your willing..." you could say the Centurion litteraly came to the word of God for His healing. Everyone who ever came to the Word (Jesus) was healed. This still applies today.

Mark 4:14 14The sower soweth the word.

God sowed His word to Israel, yet there was not one single leper healed, not one single widow received the promise. When the sower sows the living Word, all of the power that is in the Word is living. The Word mixed with faith is pulsating with power, and it's on the inside of you. HE LIVES IN YOU! GOD HAS ANOINTED THAT WORD IN YOU! The Word is alive, but until faith is mixed with the Word the power within the Word is not released. That's why we must become doers of the word and speak His word out of our mouth with boldness. When we do, it will release His power. Jesus sowed the Word into His disciples for 3.5 years. Then He tells them don't go anywhere until that word on the inside of you is baptized in power. You are not a threat to the devil unless you are moving in the power of the Spirit. When you speak God's word in faith you will overcome. Until you speak His word and overcome the enemy you will not step into the full measure of His power and provision for your life. God's Word never changes. His word is complete, that's why begging God to heal you isn't going to change anything. According to Him, He has done everything He is ever going to do to heal you and bless you. You must speak His word and believe and act on His word, if we want to release His blessing in our life. You have to do something to open the valve so the power can flow. This is why we must renew our mind to the word of God. He is more willing to bless you than you are to receive it.
